IKEA Is Coming To Webster, TX

Houston-area shoppers will soon have another reason to celebrate and reorganize. After more than three decades, IKEA is officially expanding its footprint with a second store set to open in Webster by next summer.
The Swedish furniture and home goods giant plans to bring a 93,000-square-foot store to Center at Baybrook, located at 19801 Gulf Freeway, just south of Baybrook Mall. The space, previously occupied by Bel Furniture and Chair King, will undergo a major transformation to become IKEA’s next Texas location.
A Strategic Expansion for IKEA in Texas
Texas continues to be one of IKEA’s strongest markets, and the opening of this new Webster store is part of the company’s broader plan to grow its presence across the state. While the new location will be smaller than the iconic 300,000-square-foot Katy Freeway store, it will still offer a wide range of the brand’s signature affordable furniture, décor, and organizational solutions.
According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the build-out is expected to cost $16.5 million, with Dallas-based Wares Malcomb leading the design. The TDLR notes that details in early filings may evolve as construction progresses, but the project is already moving full steam ahead.
A Long-Awaited Addition for Houston Shoppers
Houston has had only one full-sized IKEA for nearly two decades — the Katy location, which opened in 2004 (with an earlier version of the store operating on the same site since 1992). For residents of the southeastern portions of the metro area, the new Webster store will provide much-needed convenience and quicker access to the retailer’s popular products.
The upcoming location also reflects the region’s steady growth, particularly around the Baybrook Mall area, which has become a booming shopping and lifestyle hub.
What Shoppers Can Expect
While IKEA has not yet released final details on the store’s layout or offerings, customers can anticipate:
-
A variety of furniture and home essentials
-
Seasonal décor and organization solutions
-
The brand’s signature walk-through showroom experience
-
Convenient access from major highways
-
A modern, streamlined design tailored to the Webster community
With construction moving forward and the opening planned for summer 2026, Houston-area residents won’t have to wait long to enjoy a second IKEA destination.
